The National Trade Skill Test & Certification (NTSTC) system, certified by the government, tests the technical skills and knowledge of working people according to uniform standards. Since it first began in 1959 for five trades, the tests have expanded and are now conducted by prefectural governors, testing people in 137 different trades as of 2007. Approximately 2.7 million people have passed the test and are esteemed by society. In this paper, we review machining (conventional lathe work) technique based on the NTSTC.
