Abstract
The purpose of this study is to establish a new effective methodology of developing assistive technologies. In this methodology, the psychological effects caused by using an assistive technology are carefully examined before forming the concept of a new assistive technology. It is assumed that the emotional conflicts which the persons with disabilities could show even after they chose the appropriate assistive technologies suggest their true needs. To clarify and analyze their true needs, the qualitative research technique is employed. Using this technique, the users' true requirements are extracted to design the concept of suitable aids. The result of an semi-structured interview using the qualitative research technique proved that she has a mental conflict and it is caused by a dilemma To analyze the causes of her dilemma was effective to form a concept of an assistive technology. This result suggests the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methodology.
