Abstract
A joystick car drive system for wheelchair users is presented in this paper. The system enables severely handicapped person to drive a car with a single hand. The joystick operation in back and forth direction controls acceleration or deceleration of a car while that in left and right direction rotates steering front wheels to turn. The initial prototype of a steering wheel drive system is designed and built. The prototype is tested on a real van to investigate the realizability of the proposed joystick system.
