Authors have developed a new nondestructive evaluation method of welding residual stresses called the bead flush method, and have confirmed its utility for simple welded plates by simulations and experiments. In this method, eigen-strain distributions due to welding are calculated by removing reinforeement of weld by the inverse analysis. Then residual stresses are evaluated by the forward analysis. For wider applicability and higher accuracy of this method, it is necessary to capture solution sets more accurately in the inverse analysis. Especially, characteristics of eigen-strain distributions should be clarified. Therefore in this paper, a concept how eigen-strains are utilized to capture solution sets is proposed. Based on this concept, influence factors of welding eigen-strains are examined and relations between welding eigen-strains and residual stresses are made clear by the thermo-elasto-plastic analysis.
