Abstract
Thermally sprayed WC/10%Co/4%Cr coatings were prepared using a high velocity oxygen fuel spraying (HVOF) and the coating properties, such as micro structure, porosity, wear resistance and cavitation erosion resistance, were investigated in this study. It was found that the coating properties were significantly affected by primary size of WC grain, as well as particle strength of the agglomerated and sintered WC/10%Co/4%Cr spray powders. The combination of WC grain size and particle strength was optimized to obtain the coatings with desirable mechanical properties. The significantly superior coating with cavitation erosion resistance was produced using optimized spray conditions and spray powder developed in this study.
