In analyzing a cracked solid by using the finite element method, the singularity of the tip of crack must be taken into consideration and for this purpose the so-called singular element which has either Ο(γ^<-1/2>) singularity or Ο(γ^<-1>) singularity have been developed so far. The order of singularity of the tip of a crack in a strain-hardening solid is different from that in a linear-elastic solid and it becomes Ο(γ^<-1/2>)〜Ο(γ^<-1>) according to the work hardening exponent of the solid. This singularity is called as the HRR singularity. In our series of researches, the HRR singular elements will be examined from the one-dimensional case to the three-dimensional one by using the super-parametric elements. One-dimensional HRR singular elements will be focused in the present research. Consequently, the singular elements with Ο(γ^<-(l-1)/l>) singularity can be developed successfully by using the super-parametric element defined by the linear shape function and l-th order of the polynomial function defining the geometry and moving its mid-side nodes to the appropriate site on the edge of element.

In our previous research, the HRR singular elements were examined for the one-dimensional case by using the super-parametric elements. Three-dimensional HRR singular elements are focused in the present research. The super-parametric element defined by the linear shape function and l-th order of the polynomial function defining the geometry is used as well as one-dimensional case. The mid-side nodes of such a super-parametric element are moved to the appropriate sites on its edge and one of its face is collapsed to one line according to the method presented by Hussain et al. The resultant shape of the element becomes wedge. Consequently, we can verify that this wedge shape element has Ο(γ^<-(l-1)/l>) singularity.

Silicon nitride ceramics are superior in strength at high temperature, and apply to ceramic gasturbines and fuel cells. However ceramics are brittle and sensitive to flaws. To overcome the sensitivity and improve the reliability of ceramics, we developed Si_3N_4-SiC composites which show excellent crack-healing ability. The oxidation behavior of Si_3N_4-SiC composites having crack-healing ability was investigated and compared with heat-treatment conditions. The oxidation test was carried out at 1000℃ for 500hr. The measurement of weight gain, bending strength, observation of oxidized surfaces were carried out. The main results obtained are as follows: (1) The weight gain of Si3N4-SiC composites treated crack-healing was lower. (2) The bending strength of Si_3N_4-SiC composites increased the value after oxidation. (3) The crack healing conditions are useful for the oxidation-resistance, and improving strength.

It is very important to develop a simplified flaw evaluation method that can be applied to carbon steel pipes with an axial flaw under the elastic-plastic fracture mode, since the JSME fitness for services code does not contain such a technique. So, this paper makes clear the ductile fracture resistance, J-R curves of an axial crack in STS410 carbon steel pipes commonly used in the primary loops of boiling water reactor plants, and derives the Z-factor for axial flaw evaluation based on the failure assessment diagram approach.
