Abstract
Continuous measurement of the impression of a musical piece has been applied only for classical pieces of music. In the present study, the differences among game music, popular music and classical music were revealed by the continuous measurements. Moreover, the relationships among the continuous responses, acoustical features, and the overall responses for a musical piece were investigated. The results of continuous responses showed that the variance in the valence was small within a musical piece for all genres. On the other hand, the variance in the arousal was small for game music, but was large for classical music. Moreover, it was suggested that the overall arousal of a piece corresponded to the averaged value through the parts, which showed large absolute values in continuous response for arousal
