Abstract
This article examines metaphor as a mediator between analyzers and culture. To do this, I will introduce three perspectives from language, cognition, and practice, emphasizing the third one. Since linguistic and cognitive perspectives fail to take socio-indexical traits of metaphor practice into consideration, I will try to overcome this problem by introducing communicational epistemology of semiotic-oriented linguistic anthropology, followed by a case study. Metaphor from a practical perspective reveals multi-layered, dynamic aspects of communication, culturally mediating rules of use in a speech community where the metaphor is practiced.
