The apparent compressive stress σ of powdery layer in a steel mortar was found to be directly proportional to the compressive strain φ as follows:
φ=Δl/(Δl∞-Δl)
σ/φ=α
σ=P/F
where Δl is the displacement of powdery layer under compressive load P, Δl∞ that in the case P=∞, F the cross sectional area of plunger, and α the modules of compressibility of powdery layer.
