Abstract
Urine samples and tumor tissues were obtained from 68 patients with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder. Allelic loss on chromosome 9 and/or chromosome 17p in urine samples showed 47 (69%) cases. Especially, 92% cases with invasive cancer showed LOH (loss of heterozygosity) on chromosome 17p in urine samples. Of 30 cases with atypia and no malignancy in cytological examination, 19 (63%) cases showed LOH in urine samples. And of 14 superficial cancers showing LOH in urine samples, 9 showed intravesical recurrence after TUR. LOH in urine samples was the useful method for diagnosis of bladder cancer and was the predictive factor of recurrence.
