Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the utilization of information in package inserts among nurses who handle antineoplastic agents and to clarify relevant influencing factors.
Method: We conducted a questionnaire survey of nurses,to investigate the basic attributes, and utilization of package inserts,as well as the skills of practical use of information. We compared the difference in personal attributes, recognition of package inserts, and the skills of practical use of information between the two groups with and without the use of package inserts. Binomial logistic regression analysis was performed to search for factors related to utilize package inserts.
Result: Questionnaires were distributed to 800 nurses, and 309 respondents (recovery rate 38.6%).In total,76.3% of nurses used the package inserts, and most often when dealing with their first medicine. The problems with the utilization were the structure, content of package inserts.Significantly related factors included an increased awareness of the need for information on antineoplastic agents, the importance of package inserts, the opportunities to learn how to use them, and the high ability to collect information.
Conclusion: It turned out that there is necessary for nurses to have the opportunity to learn about the structural features of package inserts and the content of the information contained in package inserts, and to create an environment that makes it easy to obtain and utilize package inserts. It is important for nurses to have the opportunity to learn the information in package inserts.
