Percutaneous patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure has been shown to be effective in patients with PFO–associated cryptogenic stroke, and its clinical use has expanded in recent years. Appropriate patient selection and long–term management require close collaboration between stroke specialists and cardiologists, highlighting the importance of the Brain–Heart Team (BHT). The BHT plays a central role in evaluating stroke etiology and identifying patients who may benefit from PFO closure through multimodal diagnostic approaches. In addition, coordinated long–term follow–up after the procedure is essential. Because the number of certified centers performing PFO closure remains limited, establishing regional BHT networks and strengthening collaboration among institutions are important to ensure appropriate referral and access to treatment.
