Abstract

Current marine education in elementary and secondary education rarely deal with sea-level change in the quaternary period and the submarine topography formed due to this process. Therefore, we developed and implemented an educational marine program incorporating these elements. The contents of the program are as follows:

・Interaction with organisms inhabiting the coast,

・Submarine topography and sea-level change in the quaternary period,

・Uniqueness of fishing performed by female divers (in Japanese “ama”) and submarine topography,

・Fishing offshore from Shima and the reasons for the abundant fishing resources in the area.

The degree of understanding and interest shown by the children has been generally good.
