Abstract

This article explains the progress of deep learning in the current third AI boom and how various AI applications are proceeding in many domains. Professional players can no longer win against AI in board games such as Japanese chess and Go. In the field of self-driving vehicles, paid self-driving taxis have entered practical use in the U.S. and many start-up companies have been formed in China. Predictive AI applications already assist in crime prediction and appetite. Using knowledge graphs, the quiz AI “Watson” beats human quiz champions, “Project Debater” wins debates against average humans, and QA robots have intelligent dialogs with humans. Integrating many elemental AI techniques such as knowledge-based reasoning, natural language understanding, image understanding and action planning, classroom AI and intelligent robot cafés have been developed. This paper explains how a deep learning program called Motion2Vec learns surgical suture work, and describes how AI operates in dental care. Finally, a society where humans and AI collaborate is approaching.
