Pathology of Wound Healing : Answering Questions on Dental Implants

Abstract

This article outlines the pathology of wound healing in dental implants. In particular, differences between peri-implant tissues and natural periodontal tissues, differences of vascularity between peri-implant tissues and natural periodontal tissues,issues with peri-implant tissues, adhesion of peri-implant epithelium to the implant, the main body and characteristics of osseointegration, pathogenesis of huge (bowl-like) bone defects, equilibrium in foreign body reactions, role of macrophages in peri-implant tissues, polarization of macrophages, and pathogenesis of remodeling in peri-implant bone are discussed.
