An in-depth clinical experience investigation was performed post marketing surveillance based on the actual situation of the use of alminoprofen, after whose approval on the manufacture of the drug for clinical evaluation of its effects on postexodontic swelling and pain. In particular, the effectiveness and safety of the drug, which were prospective research factors, were investigated in a pediatric patient group, and then compared with those of an adult patient control group. The time at which the drug exerted its analgesic effect after administration was also studied in detail.
This analysis included 111 patients (47 pediatric patients and 64 adult patients), all of whom except for 17 cases receiving consecutive medication. According to the patients impressions of the drug's effectiveness, it was effective or better in 100% of pediatric patients and was effective or better in 95.2% of the adult patients. The drug was very effective in 42.2% of the pediatric patients and 14.5% of the adult patients, indicating a significantly higher efficacy rate in the pediatric patient group.
The degree of final global implement was moderate or better in 78.7% of the pediatric patients and slight or better in 95.7%. It was moderate or better in 64.1% of the adult patients and slight or better in 92.8% of the adult patients, showing no significant difference in the degree of final global improvement between the pediatric and the adult groups.
The frequency of the analgesic effect was analyzed according to the time of occurrence of the analgesic effect. The frequency of analgesic effect exerted within 15 minutes after administration was relatively high, 44.4% (55.3% for pediatric patients and 36.1% for adule patients) .
Adverse drug reactions were observed in 2 (1.6%) of the 128 patients ; each experienced mild nausea and fever (0.8%) . There were no serious adverse drug reactions.
The drug was useful or better in 78.7% and slightly useful or better in 95.7% of the pediatric patients, which it was useful or better in 62.5% and slightly useful or better in 90.6% of the adult patients, showing no significant difference between the two groups.
The results suggest that alminoprofen is very useful for treatment of postexodontic pain in pediatric as well as adult patients.
