Abstract
The application of chlorhexidine gluconate for oral mucosa disinfection was prohibited in Japan after the revaluation of medicines in 1985. Dental practices have been influenced by medicine revaluations in the past. Therefore, this study investigated the details of past revaluations and obtained the following results. As for 139 medicine products, indications of the dental area were deleted. The classification according to medicinal effect was 47 antimicrobial medicine products (33.8%), 25 vitamin preparation products (18.0%), 23 dental medicine products (16.6%), and 21 medicine products (15.1 %) for the skin. As for 13 (56.5%) out of 23 products in dental medicine, neither manufacturing nor sales have been continued.
