A study of indicators useful for judging the necessity and type of orthotic prescription in the recovery phase of cerebral hemorrhage : A retrospective cohort study

Abstract

To clarify useful indicators for judging the necessity and type of orthosis, two groups with or without orthosis prescription for 34 putaminal hemorrhage patients, and the type of orthosis prescribed. The brain image findings, orthotic information, and physical functions were compared. There was a significant difference in the admission days, walking ability, motor function, and ADL between the two groups. Bleeding volume and minor axis were significantly different between the KAFO-PAFO group, and major axis was significantly different between the KAFO-PAFO group and MAFO-PAFO group, but physical function was not different among the three groups. Judging prescribed orthotics is a useful index for physical function and ADL, but brain imaging findings are also a useful index for the type of orthotics.
