Abstract
We have already reported that glutathione (GSH) is associated with the light-intensity-dependent promotion of flowering. The plants grown in strong light showed reduced expression levels of the flowering-time genes, FT and AGL20/SOC1, compared to those in weak light. Flowering-promotional effects of light were also observed in the mutants defective in GI acting upstream of these genes. These suggest that the light-intensity-dependent promotion of flowering is independent of these flowering-regulating genes. The gi mutants accumulated the high levels of GSH, indicating that GI acts in suppression of GSH accumulation. Flowering in the lfy mutants was not promoted in a light-intensity-dependent manner. This suggests that LFY is involved in the light intensity-dependent promotion of flowering. However, the LFY expression levels were not affected by light intensity in all plants tested. Thus, it is not in the gene expression level that LFY regulates the light-intensity-dependent promotion of flowering.
