Abstract
Recent progress in plant science is reported by using a model plant, Arabidopsis thaliana. However, hereafter, to understand a general character of plants, it is important that other plants are also chosen as model plants to examine its genome analysis and mutant analysis. By comparison with knowledge from Arabidopsis, we will understand the evolution and the diversity of species in plants.
A legume plant, Lotus japonicus, becomes one of model plants of attention in the plant science, because its genome size is relatively small in plants, the transformation method is established, and results in the research are applied for useful plants like soybean. We are trying to prepare mutagen-treated mutants and isolate morphogenesis mutants in Lotus. Opening of those mutants to the general public may be useful for many aspects in the plant science. Isolated mutants on morphogenesis and a schedule of the opening will be reported in the meeting.
