Abstract
A great spin-off of space activities is to make people being conscious of the limited resource available on the earth, and self-organizing capabilities of ecological system for maintaining the earth habitable. Synthesize the closed ecological system is based on such features of living organisms in exchanging energy, materials, and information between each subunit. Chemical compounds are produced at encoding information, dispersed in the ecological system through the corridor of air and water, and decomposed by chemical or biological processes. Human presence in the energy and material flows on the earth has grown to a noticeable level. The degree of human's commitment and control is much higher in the artificial closed ecological system. Such a system designed in space could be a good test-bed for the globe sized engineering on ecology and environment. Studies on plant physiology for inter-organismal interaction are associated with our engagements for our future.
