Abstract
The genome DNA of prokaryote forms DNA-protein complexes, called the nucleoid. The nucleoid associated proteins play some functional roles, besides their structural roles, in global regulation of essential DNA functions. HU is encoded by hanA gene in Anabaena sp. PCC 7120, and HU forms homodimer. Four genes (all0458, all1173, alr3808, all4145) encoded Dps protein homologs. By phylogenetic analysis, it is suggested that alr3808 is similar todpsA in Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942, and all1173 is similar to dps in E. coli. all0458 corresponding to lti46 isolated as low-temperature induced gene from Anabaena variabilis M3 belong to another group with all4145. We performed expression analysis of these genes under low-temperature, dark, low-nitrate and low-iron conditions in Anabaena sp. PCC 7120. The four dps genes showed different expression patterns. Now we are making disruption mutants of these genes.
