Abstract
We identified P23k mRNA and protein which localized to the scutellum in barley seeds and predicted to participate in the translocation of nutrients. However, P23k has not any known functional domain for the estimation of its function. Then, to know the function of P23k , we analyzed the temporal and spatial expression patterns of P23k in the life cycle of barley. In these analyses we detected specific expression in the leaf which acquired the ability of photosynthesis. The expression of P23k was also detected in the nucellar projection and other tissues in the developing seeds. As these tissues concern with the supply of nutrients, we estimated that P23k concerns in the translocation of nutrients. We analyzed the factors which associate with P23k using BIACORE and obtained two proteins. We are analyzing further the interactions using immunoprecipitation and yeast two-hybrid system. From these results we discuss on the functions of P23k.
