Abstract
Programmed cell death plays an important role of the removal of damaged cells and essential to the development and maintenance of bodies. Dysfunction of DAD1 (defender against apoptotic death) has been linked to programmed cell death in animals and plants. As DAD1 is an essential subunit of the oligosaccharyltransferase that is located in the ER membrane, the results have raised the possibility that down-regulation of N-linked glycosylation could be involved in the regulation of programmed cell death. To study the regulation of Arabidopsis thaliana DAD1 (AtDAD1) in the plant tissue, we generated transgenic Arabidopsis plants expressing a GUS driven by AtDAD1 promoter fragment. The promotor-GUS assay has shown that the AtDAD1 express the root cap, a vascular bundle of the root, an abscission zone of the silique and a septum of the maturity silique. These results suggest the involvement of the AtDAD1 in the developmental programmed cell death.
