Abstract
Nicotianamine (NA) chelates many kinds of metals and has a significant role in metal homeostasis in higher plants. 2'-deoxymugineric acid (DMA) is a chelater of Fe3+ and plays an important role in uptake of Fe in gramineous plants. According to previous works, citrate and histidine are suggested as ligands for metal transportation via xylem in Arabidopsis. In gramineous plants, DMA is also observed in xylem sap; hence DMA is supposed to play a role in metal transportation in xylem. We additionally determined NA in rice xylem sap using LC/ESI-TOF-MS. Fluorenylmethoxycarbonylation of DMA and NA enable highly sensitive quantification by ESI-MS. In this study we measured DMA and NA content in rice xylem sap.
