Abstract
Iron, zinc, manganese, copper are required for seed maturation and germination. Metal chelators are also required for metal transport during seed maturation and germination of plant. Mugineic acid family phytosiderophores are metal chelators biosynthesized in graminaceous plants, and NA, a chelator of metals, is ubiquitously present in higher plants. Deoxymugineic acid (DMA) is found in rice plant and is produced from NA in two steps.
In this study, distribution of metals was analyzed by a synchrotron X-ray fluorescence microprobe to illuminate metal transport and the role of NA and MAs during seed maturation and germination of rice plant and germination of Arabidopsis. In addition, status of Fe localized in mature rice seeds was analyzed by μXANES. Based on results of microarray analysis, promoter-GUS analysis, physiological analysis and X-ray fluorescence analysis, metal transport in rice seeds during seed maturation and germination will be considered.
