Abstract
Living organisms are composed of cells with various states which is induced by intrinsic and/or extrinsic cues. The state is changeable by new cues. It is mostly unknown how the variation and stability of cells are maintained as an organized system. We use pluripotent stem cells as a model to understand this system. A stem cell has a character of self-renewal and a potential to form a differentiated cell. Pluripotent stem cell produces most types of cells and tissue of an organism. Pluripotent stem cells of plants are usually formed at the tips of their body and continuously produce differentiated cells and tissue. I will compare the molecular mechanisms of stem cell initiation, maintenance, characterization, and interaction to other cells.
