Abstract
The number of metabolites in the plant kingdom is estimated to exceed 200,000. Primary metabolism, which is fundamental and essential to life, seems to be robust against changes in the environment. On the other hand, secondary metabolism, which has roles in adaptation to environment, seems to change dynamically in response to the environmental changes. Regulation of complicated metabolism is one of the plants' strategies to survive under varying environmental conditions.
The objective of our study is elucidation of plant metabolism and its regulatory mechanism. To take a birds-eye view of complicated plant metabolism, we take an approach of large-scale biology. We intend to generate data-driven hypothesis on the basis of large-scale datasets of transcriptome and metabolome. In this presentation, I will introduce (1) our recent achievement on elucidation of glucosinolate metabolism, and (2) our new research project for elucidation of amino acid metabolism.
