Abstract
A large area around the Aso caldera, central Kyushu, is covered by the Aso welded tuff and other pyroclastic flow deposits of the Upper Pliocene and later in age. These deposits are partly hidden under thick pyroclastic fall deposits ejected from Recent volcanoes. The pyroclastic flow deposits and fall deposits show characteristic erosional land-form which is discriminated in aerophotographs.
In conclusion, we found that the photogeological method is useful for making the distribution of the deposits clear in rather short time. However, in order to accomplish a detailed distribution of the deposits, the deductive consideration on the bases of volcano-stratigraphical and geomorphological surveying is recommended.
