Abstract
Contour map is widely used not only in engineering fields, but also in agricultural or scientific fields. So, many studies have been done to make a contour map with high accuracy automatically from digital terrain data measured in the mesh system, accompanied by the use of a large computer. In most of these studies, contour lines are regarded as “lines”.
But in this study, from a different point of view, contour lines are regarded as “small continuous dots”. According to the method used in this study, the computer work is quite simple, because the computer has only to make the on-off judgement of each dot which corresponds to each datum obtained from the close interpolation between a set of four neighbouring digital terrain data. The work to recognize “continuous dots” as a line, therefore, is done not by a computer, but by the human eyes.
Moreover, this method has a great advantage that it can be applied to any kind of digital data which are converted into mesh system.
