After April 1982, weekly global Normalized Vegetation Index (NVI) image data are supplied from NOAA/NESDIS of U.S.A, using Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) channel 1 and 2.
In this paper, the NVI data with coarse spatial resolution and high temporal frequency are used to investigate seasonal dynamics of NVI in some typical vegetation areas of China. We found that monthly changes of NVI had a close relation with vegetation growth in their area, it is possible for vegetation monitoring using these data. Further, this paper presents that the yearly difference of NVI pattern related with growing condition of crop and has a little connection with the yield of crop in these agricultural area. This is useful to find unusually crop growing in an early stage.
