Abstract
An advanced heating stage was developed in order to carry out in-situ observation of the behavior of silicate melt. The unique features of this heating stage are that oxygen fugacity control can be performed and that transmitted illumination is available during observation. Oxygen fugacity control is indispensable for melting experiments of earth and planetary materials. For the control, a gas blender generates mixed gas of hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide gas and sends it into the heating stage. The fugacity of the inside of the earth and planetary bodies is reproducible with this heating stage. The texture where Fe-metal and silicate melt coexist can be observed owing to the oxygen fugacity control. A new attempt for the measurement of physical properties of silicate melt using equilibrium shape of bubbles is also presented.
