Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship of recognition of coping effectiveness and eating duration on the negative affect after emotional-eating. Two hundred and seventy-five college students participated in the questionnaire survey. The results from hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that effect of recognition of coping effectiveness was associated with the negative affect after emotional eating only for women, but not for men. However, eating duration was not associated with the negative affect. There was a gender difference in the length of normal eating duration, but not in the mealtime of the emotional eating. These results from the present study indicated that high recognition of coping effectiveness led to the reduction of negative emotions, through emotional eating in women.
