Abstract

Ostomate care programs for care workers were developed by the Japanese Society of Stoma and Continence Rehabilitation (JSSCR). Since 2013, we have conducted seminars for care workers using these programs. The present study aimed to elucidate the usefulness of these care programs. A questionnaire survey about the elements of these care programs was conducted on 46 care workers. Questionnaires were recovered from 37 (80%) care workers. Among the nine care workers who did not return a questionnaire, seven had already retired. Among the 37 care workers who returned the questionnaire,20 were involved in stoma care. Among these 20 respondents, 19 reported that the programs were useful for understanding the basic procedures for ostomy appliance and stoma management. However, six care workers responded that they encountered difficulties even after attending a seminar. These data indicate that ostomate care programs are useful for care workers.
