Abstract
The electric percolator is American Invention in early 1900s. From then, many technical developments followed. It had been the most popular type of coffee making method in American homes. The second popular type around 1940s was a vacuum drip device made of glass.Simple paper filtering method spread after 1950s. Automatic filter-drip machines almost overwhelmed the market after 1970s. These changes of methods/devices can be explained through some background factors. : I.e., market competition and technical innovation, changing dietary habits, and European influence on coffee making. Appearance and imagery of those devices were also influenced by these factors.
