Abstract
This study investigates the scholarship on Japan image in Vlctorian era, and compares the result with our study of articles on Japan in The Studio, for investlgation of the information and the image of Japanese arts and crafts in public reader in the second half of Victorian era. The Studio found in 1893,just before the Sino-Japanese War. It was the period that the concern of general magazines and reviews separeted from japonalserie. The Studio had published articles on Japan since the start. it is suggested t.hat the readers of The Studio had other image on japan except japonaiserie. On the other hand, it is probably that the words for valuation for Japanese arts and crafts in The Studio, as strange and grotesque, related with the words in general magazines and reviews.
