Abstract
In 1931,a major earthquake struck an area around Napier in New Zealand. Construction work then began on damage recovery. The time was the Art Deco period. As a consequence, buildings influenced by the Art Deco school at the beginning of the 1930s remain in the town of Napier, The results of the author's study visit to the town are outlined in this paper.
