A study of the regional characteristic in wooden furniture industry.

Abstract

There are number of wooden furniture industries have renowned their names for their delicate craftmanship in the design and the making of furniture in Japan. In order to investigate tha regional characteristic of the wooden furniture industries in Fukuoka prefecture, I have conducted interviews with the staff from each company. According to my research, there are over 120 companies in Fukuoka area. Over 80% of them produce wooden furniture specially for commercial premises, shop and restaurant. About 90% of the company operate in " made to order" system and 78% of the furniture companies only concentrate on the manufacturing and production.
