Abstract
Ever since the society entered the stage of digital era, what is called a cyber life has increased in time and weight, positioning itself as another life, rivaling with a real life. Plus, cyber life has led to the birth of a concept of expanded life, where the two influence each other. Considering the specific character of cyber life which can be only achieved with a medium of a computer, computer operating system, or OS, takes the position as a gateway to the expanded reality. In particular, a group of potential changes can be expected, judging from a number of positive prospects regarding the ubiquitous computing environment in the near future. The major concern of this research is how to get ready for such new change. OS interface especially needs a new turnover in meaning through a change in a technological environment, which is, ubiquitous computing and through transformation of paradigm called user centered design. The purpose of this research is developing a design of OS interface, where cyber humans individuality is respected and then grown, reflecting the lifestyle of users, who gradually pursue their own set of values. For this purpose, phenomena of cyber life must be diagnosed first, by studies of precedent researches and surveys. Then a scenario technique will be used to define artificial concept of cyber human, leading to a group of many computing necessities. Such necessities will seek possible alternatives, based on ubiquitous computing technology, cognitive theory and experience design theory, which will lead to a suggestion of a custom made OS interface design. Adequacy of this research will be proved through the process of conceptual verification. This research will reconsider the computing development, which has been initiated by the technical engineering, with a viewpoint of a design where the relationships between human and culture, and the elements of society and environment are integrated matters of consideration. Thus this research will achieve significance in that it can directly contribute to decide a future living environment, by having design play a positive role in computer development.
