Abstract
This paper describes our joint research in which we tried to identify points to be improved or new features to be considered in the design of electronic forms. We observed human activities in filling in paper forms and submitting them in a city office, and compared it with the procedures of an example of electronic form application on the web. We found some typical human behaviors with paper forms, and discussed psycho-behavioral needs behind such behaviors. These findings suggested taking such needs into account in designing electronic form applications, in order to make the system usable and satisfactory for a wide variety of users. This case study also showed a possibility that we can elicit a successful design of a computerized system through observing and analyzing natural human behaviors with conventional system.
