The need for the design method that enables the products to ensure robust performance in diverse conditions has increased due to increased diversity of the user and environment. In the present study, a robust design method for diverse conditions was proposed by using Quality Function Deployment that enables designers to understand the relationship between design factors and Robust Index that evaluate the feasibility of the objective characteristic being within tolerance, and the proposed design method was applied to a seat design problem. As a result, effectiveness of the proposed design method was confirmed. Additionally, a seat mechanism with improved robustness of function was proposed.

The traditional design method is modeled by abstracting and generalizing the design activities. In this paper, a new approach to systematizing the design method is proposed, which focuses on the primitive processes of design and their principles. First, the problem in the traditional approach is analyzed. Second, four primitive processes and principles are determined as the basis of the new approach. Third, the nature of the traditional design method is discussed from the viewpoint of the new approach.

A set of design experiment was conducted in order to examine the relationships between the higher creativity and concept synthesizing process. Design task was to form a new product by synthesizing between two concepts. Protocol analysis was adopted to investigate a role of thematic relations between concepts in design process. There was a strong correlation between creativity and extension of design space from the result of analysis. Given results was synthesizing two concepts on a thematic relation leads a higher creativity and many different scenes with action concepts were recalled during the design task. It might be considered that if the subjects connect between concepts in thematic relations, design space will be extended and get to a higher creativity for design outcomes.

Organic electroluminescence light have possibility not only for lighting but also for showing. In this research we compared light sources, their color and how they luminescence. And what kind of Japanese-style room with organic luminescence light will heal people best. Using semantic differential, organic electroluminescence light and flicker from waver are effective to relax people. This in fusion with space design, we will know how that we can make the most of organic electroluminescence features. Making the organic electro- luminescence light in many shapes, change color shades with film thickness of organic electroluminescence plate and to research the best way to drive it, we can build a space in witch people can heal more.

Healing Space is a suggestion in search of comfort space. It is need to be made examination from science side and sensibility side. Extracted "water and light" conception is from literature of impressionist artists. Extracted is wave shape from "design image", collected concept of space design and lighting shape from "soft and round", design healing space "float wave" from flicker pattern. We will evaluate it with subjective judgment that how people will heal from suggested light. From that evaluation we will make verification for manufacture design. In this research, we build knowledge of using healing effect from organic electroluminescence light so we can produce much more comfortable space to live.

In facts, every person really gets innate imagination, however the wrong education method often model everyone into the same mold. Besides, now very advanced countries combine multiple art activities plan an integrity art education course system; moreover, they advocate art education should rely mainly on inspiring, prompting, guiding and cultivate children's imagination, creativity, observation and practice ability. Therefore, to realize how to keep, encourage and cultivate their imagination, is the emphasis in the research.

In this paper, we propose a novel method to investigate creative thinking in the real-world. In our experiment, subjects were presented a cue story, and retrieved cases that had been learned in their everyday life. Following this, they rated utility of each retrieved case. For each retrieved case, we computed two kinds of similarity scores: the surface similarity score and the structural similarity score. As a result, the former score explained the overall retrieval of cases well, whereas the later score had a strong relation to the rated scores. These results are consistent with the structural mapping theory.

Our environment and our circumstances influence our behavior. In information
design we also need to take the environment and the circumstances into account.
In our research project, we call this method "a platform for activity". The platform for activity provides more opportunity for users in their environment and the circumstance.
The purpose of this project is to highlight the process of the "designing platform" method.

We have been researching how to make use of manga-like expressions in various forms of communication. A special characteristic of manga that needs to be pointed out is the use of fixed expressions (ManGuru/Manga-marks). The use of these marks or fixed expressions makes it easy to understand the characters feelings. One of the most typically used marks is sweat. Sweat does not only express hotness, but surprise or anxiousness, psychological states such as worry or nervousness are also clearly depicted through sweat. Feelings of love or anger are also expressed through manguru /manga-marks. Drawing hearts around a character or anger-marks is common to express emotion. In the story these marks are used effectively in important scenes, the marks not only emphasize the character's feelings, but also help to express the situation he or she has be placed in. We have added these manga-marks to portraits that have been converted to line drawings and given them the name Mangafaces. We are also planning on using these Mangafaces as avatars for mobile phone based communication. For that reason we have been looking into how manguru /manga-marks can be used separate from manga, we are also examining the difference in the usage between Japan and Korea, furthermore this has been an experiment in the effectiveness of manga-marks as expressions of emotion. In this presentation I will speak on results of our experiment and the use of Mangafaces.

People's communication activities with system have been changed from ordinary products into mobile devices and services under the name of "KEITAI." The change is shaped by state of art on Information Communication Technology. However, those changes are realized as replacing technology or combined functions of them. User Experience point of view has been missing in the changes. This paper shows a case of designing services for purchasing with recording and editing of purchaser's experience. In the case design, importance of User Experience approach is discussed. Especially effectiveness of practicing the assumed activity by designer themselves has been examined from the point of Activity Based Design Development methods (Sunaga 2003).

Eisuke Kashiwazaki (1910-1986) designed many things from japan ware in Okinawa Bembo to various kind of materials, but his accomplishments as an organizer of regional design efforts are equally significant. The best example of this is his founding of the Kyushu Craft Designer Association and acting as the first director of that association . He was the creator of the early stages of the Kyushu and Okinawa design industries. KCDA has now been in existence for 40 years. This is thanks to the fact that Eisuke Kashiwazaki was not only an outstanding designer, but also a fervent supporter of design education, as well as acting as an advisor for the Department Store, giving guidance and advice related to distribution and sales, which was also a major contributing factor.

As a result, next four points become clear: 1) Also it is called "zuo pin feng (screen)", but different from Japanese style screen "ruan ping" presented from Japan in the Ming period.2) Screens are classified into these four ones following their forms: "small table screen","screen", "folding screen", "hanging screen". Screens are regarded as precious handcrafts, so it is considered that possessing lots of them means a status symbol and wealth of a family.4) Each place is arranged and characterized by forms, materials, designs of screens, according to social status, class and lifestyle. Therefore there is a social standard in using screens.

In 2004, Tsuchiya Laboratory had developed the Tsujido-area disaster prevention map, which was too large for the daily use and was not effective enough for the people in this district. In 2005, I investigated a new disaster prevention map that is much more easy to use at home. The new one is as large as A4 size, 4 pages, which included many new ideas to make it more useful and instructive, for examples, information about the usage of Disaster Message Board Services, emergency supplies and a large-scale area map. After the law of barrier-free concerning the pedestrian area was enacted in Japan in May 2000, many barrier-free maps have become to be popular. However, it is necessary to survey a lot of points in a town to make this barrier-free map, and also it needs much time to write the survey data onto the map. Then, we used the cellular phone with the camera which has GPS (Global Positioning system) function as a data input terminal, and we could gather information of many barriers easily. From the point of people's "wants of expressing" we have studied structures and mechanisms of emerging the expressions. Nest structure of works, Coupling structure of expressing activities, and Place of settings are mechanisms of expressing activity. Design Space, Semi-Design Space, and Emergent Space are problem spaces of Expression.

In the Design field like as Web application software, we do not have appropriate method to design community communication which is complexity, and we are not able to see. We should have the method to describe what are made, and what are needed in actual activity in everyday life.
In this research, we adapt a design step; "As is Reality, As is Model,To be Model to To be Reality" model, and Contextual Design. We describe activities from view of Relation of persons and objects (Relation models), Sequence of operation (Sequence models), Artifacts (Artifact models), Physical envilonments (Physical models), Values and feelings (Cultural models) which were modified from Contextual Design. We named this method as "Activity Pattern-Based Design".

We practiced "Activity Pattern-Based Design" in this research. Originally, people who live in community, send, receive and share information in everyday life. The local community people, by whom we create the website together, use a "circular bulletin" as an information share tool for their local community. So, we focus on activities of the informational share performed in the local community. We described activities, made models and changed them into practical designs. Concretely, we designed editing functions of the information on the website. As a result, it was confirmed that it was effective to design from description of activities.
The excellent points of "activity pattern-based design" are;1) necessary specs are developed by modeling various activities,2) global image which is made from structure lead appropriate concept.

The purpose of this study is to find the effects of Environmental Graphics on urban spaces. Environmental Graphics is two-dimensional graphic element applied to volumetric objects, such as the surface of architecture. It have taken many active parts in the economic sides, the social sides, and the cultural sides in urban spaces. Firstly, we were able to find out the economical effect of Environmental Graphics, such as downtown revitalization, from the mural project of Chemainus. Secondly, from the Community Murals in San Francisco, we could see the social effect of Environmental Graphics. Thirdly, its cultural effect, assisting the area's cultural value, was found out from the case of Tony Garnier Urban Museum, Lyon. Through consideration of many examples in urban spaces of the 20th century, we could see that these urban works have great influences on our living spaces with a very varied content, style, form and size.
