Abstract
In the present study, we examined how consumers would evaluate the risk of agricultural chemical residues when the information was given in "text-only", "text-and-graph", and "text-and-illustration" formats. The participants were given information regarding agricultural chemical residues in either a "text-only", "text-and-graph", or "text-and-illustration" format, and asked to evaluate the risk of the information using visual analog scale. The results indicated that the participants could evaluate the risk most accurately with the "text-and-illustration" format. Combination of text and illustration may facilitate understanding of the risk of agricultural chemical residues.
