Abstract
Many subway maps consist of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. Recent investigation has shown that the London Tube map has decieved passengers into choosing a roundabout route. This study investigates the influence the Tokyo official subway map has on path selection. First we conduct an experiment to find the most popular route. Next we compare the actual distance between stations and the distance implied by the map. The results suggest that distorted lines can affect subway transfers.
