Abstract
London Underground Letter, designed by Edward Johnston, appeared in London Underground from 1916. His type face owes so much to Caslon Old Face,however, his devise for type face design was based upon palaeography and calligraphy. This session will be discussed how historical san serif types were derived and how Johnston dealt with his design of Underground type.
