Abstract
Today in China,despite increasing Chinese typefaces,as far as typefaces for body text are concerned,there are no effective classification methods for choosing adequate one.For solving this problem,this paper proposes a method for classifying Chinese body text-typefaces based on solely their scalable visual parameters.Sòngtǐ (nine typefaces) and Hēitǐ (seven typefaces) were chosen as the chief typeface categories for body text.Four parameters were measured:maximum height and width,maximum area of types,and area of counters.Finally cluster analysis was conducted.The result shows that Sòngtǐ types and Hēitǐ types can be classified each into four groups and three groups,in which features of the typefaces are more easily distinguished each other.
