Abstract
Abstract: This study revisits Herbert Bayer’s atlas: “World Geo-graphic Atlas” (1953), known as a unusual luxurious book design which was printed in both countries: United States of America and Italy, including over 2,000 figures in 368 pages. In contrast to former studies which had a common tendency to emphasize on the artistic autonomous aspect of the atlas, this study addresses on inter-textual aspect of the atlas, by comparing its maps and figures to the various possible resources, including: “Atlas of the world”, CCA (1936), R.E. Harrison’s world airways map (1943), E. Raisz’s “Atlas of global geography”(1944), “Atlas of world map: Army specialized training program” (1943), and B. Fuller’s world energy map (1950 version).
