Abstract
Learning through expression, as found in workshops and design thought processes, is expanding in many fields and settings of human activities. As such, there is a need to characterize these creative activities from a design viewpoint and discover new design possibilities. For this research project, we focused on and explored young children’s expressive activities, regarding them to be precursors of adults’ creative activities, at preschools and other care centers. Documentation is known to play a key role in designing high-quality learning activities. Consequently, we observed operations at daycare centers and studied the meaning and role of documentation. We developed a documentation tool based on these findings that runs on iPhones and personal computers.
