Abstract
The skill of polishing until the surface is beautifully smooth is called the “Ro-iro" finish that requires very sophisticated hand-skill. Mainly been handed down by craftsmen, it took many years to master the skill. Also the plaster and clay used for the mold, is difficult to repeat for replications. By using the common PVC material for the mold, this study reports a simple method to make the URUSHI surface of quality close to the “Ro-iro” finish that can be mass-produced.
