Abstract

Sanjo Marche, a regional event in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, has been held 75 times over the past 12 years, attracting 164,000 visitors and 4,000 vendors. The Marche was on the verge of extinction due to the Corona Vortex, and we wanted to create new possibilities for it using design thinking methods and techniques, such as workshops, process redesign, and archive creation. Through the practice, we obtained results that provide clues for the next phase of the project, such as how the power of design brought about change in the committee members, how awareness of the act of design was raised, and the Marche as a place for learning discovered by the public.
