The Role of Design in the Finnish Public Sector

Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify how design is positioned and what role designer play in the Finnish public sector. Semi-structured interviews and fieldwork were conducted with 16 people involved in design in the Finnish public sector. The results revealed three findings regarding the role of design in the Finnish public sector: 1) design as system design, 2) designers as mediators, and 3) open and flat organizations.
